What You'll Learn
In this workshop, participants will explore the signs and patterns of compulsive exercise, including the exercise dependency cycle and the potential short- and long-term impacts on physical and mental health. The session will also consider the cultural and environmental influences that can reinforce compulsive movement behaviours, alongside practical strategies for recognising and responding to them.
Caroline Toshack will guide participants through understanding compulsive exercise as a coping mechanism, exploring its links with eating disorders and neurodivergence. The training offers valuable insight into why some individuals feel driven to exercise excessively and why stopping can feel so difficult.
No prior knowledge of compulsive exercise, eating disorders, or neurodivergence is required. This course provides a clear and accessible introduction to all three topics and the ways they can intersect.
The training is particularly valuable for mental health professionals, healthcare practitioners, counsellors, educators, personal trainers, sports coaches, and other movement or exercise professionals seeking to better understand and support individuals affected by compulsive exercise.
