Understanding AuDHD
What happens when Autism and ADHD co-exist — and how does this dual experience shape how someone thinks, feels, connects with others, and relates to food?
AuDHD, a term increasingly used by individuals who identify with both Autism and ADHD traits, describes a complex and often misunderstood intersection of neurodivergence. Those with AuDHD may experience a unique combination of traits — from sensory sensitivities and emotional intensity to impulsivity, hyperfocus, and executive functioning differences — which can influence almost every aspect of daily life.
This training offers professionals an in-depth, neuroaffirmative exploration of AuDHD and the ways it can intersect with eating behaviours, disordered eating, and eating disorders — a central focus of NEDDE Training. It also considers the impact of AuDHD on relationships, including communication differences, emotional regulation, attachment patterns, and the challenges of navigating social expectations and norms.
Many individuals with AuDHD describe feeling fundamentally misunderstood in both personal and clinical environments. For professionals, this training provides an opportunity to deepen understanding and develop the insight needed to better recognise and support clients whose experiences do not always fit neatly within traditional diagnostic frameworks — and who are too often overlooked, mislabelled, or misunderstood.
