Understanding AUDHD

Format:  Instant access |  Digital | Self-Paced | Certificate of Attendance | Lifetime Access

What happens when Autism Spectrum and ADHD co-exist - and how does this dual experience shape how someone thinks, feels, connects with others, and relates to food?

AUDHD, a term increasingly used by individuals who identify with both Autism and ADHD traits, describes a complex and often misunderstood intersection of neurodivergence. Those with AUDHD may experience a unique blend of traits - from sensory sensitivity and emotional intensity to impulsivity, hyperfocus, and executive dysfunction - that can impact almost every area of life.

This training offers professionals an in-depth, neuroaffirmative understanding of AUDHD and how it intersects with eating behaviours, disordered eating, and eating disorders — a core focus of NEDDE Training. It also explores the impact of AUDHD on relationships, including difficulties with communication, emotional regulation, attachment patterns, and navigating social norms and expectations.

Many individuals with AUDHD report feeling fundamentally misunderstood in both clinical and personal contexts. For professionals, this training provides the tools to better understand and support clients who may not fit neatly into diagnostic categories - and who are often missed, mislabelled, or misdiagnosed.

What You’ll Learn:

  • How Autism and ADHD traits interact and present across the lifespan
  • The lived experience of AUDHD, including masking, burnout, and sensory overwhelm
  • How AUDHD influences eating behaviours — including food rigidity, binge eating, sensory-based aversions, impulsivity, and shame
  • The role of trauma, rejection sensitivity, and alexithymia in AUDHD presentations
  • Common challenges in relationships, including emotional reciprocity, trust and navigating boundaries
  • Why traditional approaches to treatment often fail neurodivergent clients — and how to work in a neuroaffirmative, trauma-aware, and inclusive way
