Mel Ciavucco
Integrative Counsellor
I recognize that eating problems can affect anyone of any size, gender, age, race, class and ability. People in larger bodies are sometimes overlooked for eating disorders due to stigma and assumptions. I offer a safe and compassionate space for anyone who feels they may have been judged on their size. A label of an eating disorder is not required, I am passionate about helping anyone with any anxiety or difficulties around food and body image.
I honour the intersecting of people's identities, the impact of weight stigma, and the common overlapping of gender, neurodivergence and eating distress. I am neuroaffirmative, which means I have experience of working in an adaptable, collaborative and inclusive way with people with ADHD, Autism and other neurodivergence. I'm LGBT+ friendly, disability aware (including chronic illnesses) and size-inclusive. My counselling practice has grown out of my passion for social justice, my own lived experience in the past, and my aims for inclusive and adaptable modern counselling practices.
I also offer training and workshops for individuals and professionals on body image, weight stigma and disordered eating. I've worked for eating disorder charities for many years and have a passion for helping people with all kinds of body image and eating concerns.
